92nd Academy Awards

The Oscars, originally known as the Academy Awards are honors for artistic and technical merit in the film industry. This is an annual award show by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the awards are based on international recognition in cinematic accomplishments. The various category winners are awarded a golden statuette, officially called the “Academy Award of Merit”, although more frequently referred to as the “Oscar”. The statue portrays a knight displayed in the Art Deco style. The show was founded by the great Louis B Mayer and it was intended to be a non-profit organization. The first Oscars were held on May 16th, 1929 and gave the official start to this well-known award show.

The Oscar Awards of 2020 were held on Sunday, February 9th, at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific and had a duration of 3 hours and 35 minutes. The show took place at Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, California, USA and was watched by about 23.6 million people around the world. The hosts were Tamron Hall, Billy Porter, Lily Aldridge, Elvis Mitchell, and Ryan Seacrest. This year’s awards had many different categories such as best picture, actor in a leading role, actress in leading role, cinematography, directing, costume design, animated feature film, documentary, film editing, international feature film, etc.…

Most awards were taken by Parasite (4 Oscars), an international film from South Korea. The movie with the most nominations was The Joker with 14 nominations but only took 2 awards. The Joker protagonist Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor by a leading role. The Best Picture, directing, international feature film, and writing original screenplay awards were taken by Parasite. Other movies such as little women, Once upon a time in Hollywood, marriage story, 1917, Jojo rabbit also took Oscars that night.
