How To Set Your Goals For 2021

This year is finally ending, and we now have to prepare for what’s next. It is a tradition to set your goals to try to be better next year. Creating your goals can change how you see the upcoming year and how you act in it. Most importantly, setting your goals can give you a purpose, something on which you can focus.

The SMART method is one of the best ways to establish your intentions. Setting your own goals is essential; every successful person has set their objectives and made them real, made them happen. When you establish a goal, you are putting all your focus into one or two things, making it so necessary, and beneficial to you.

What is a SMART Goal?

SMART is an acronym that refers to:

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Relevant

Time-bound

How to Set a Smart Goal

The first thing you have to do is think about what area you are focusing on. It could be work, hobbies, health, etc. Then, you have to reflect on what you want to achieve. After you do that, you can start creating your goal following the SMART Goal method recommendations.

Specific

Your goal has to be clear: if your objective isn’t straightforward  and specific, you won’t focus enough, and you might not be able to achieve it.

Measurable

Having a measurable goal means having a goal that you can keep track of, a goal in which you can see the progress you are making. Seeing how you are improving and getting closer and closer to your objective will make you more enthusiastic about it and make you focus even more.

Achievable

This means your goal has to be possible within your skills, abilities, boundaries, and limitations. If your objective is unrealistic and unachievable, there’s no point in trying, and when you fail, you will be disappointed, which does not do any good.

Relevant

Your goal has to be meaningful to you and in the area. If your goal is important and matters to you, then you will focus better and work harder towards achieving it.

Time-bound

Finally, your goal has to be time-bound, meaning you must determine an approximate time in which you will  accomplish your goal. According to the difficulty and complexity of your goal, your time frame could be: short (1- 4 months), medium (5-9 months), or long (1-3 years). Your goal and time frame should fit together for you to be successful and achieve your goals.

Setting SMART Goals is something that we should all do. Starting a new year to be better is an impressive way of thinking. Now that we are saying goodbye to 2020, we should say hello to a hopefully brighter future.
